Valeric anhydride is an organic anhydride (CAS No. 2082-59-9), molecular formula C₁₀H₁₈O₃,molecular weight 186.25,colorless transparent liquid,serves as a useful acylating agent and intermediate in organic synthesis.
Uses
Its primary advantage lies in its ability to introduce the valeryl group (C₄H₉CO–) into organic molecules. Compared to valeric acid, valeric anhydride typically provides a more reactive source of the valeryl group, enabling esterification and amidation reactions under suitable conditions.
Due to this reactivity, valeric anhydride is widely used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, fine chemical production, general organic synthesis, and the preparation of valerate derivatives.
Applications:
1. As an acylating agent
