Succinic anhydride-also known as butanedioic anhydride-is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H4O3. It appears as a white crystalline powder that is slightly soluble in water and diethyl ether, and soluble in chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, and ethanol. It is primarily used in the manufacture of analgesics, diuretics, painkillers, antipyretics, as well as anti-inflammatory, contraceptive, and anti-cancer drugs.
